Ashley McCall is an award-winning bilingual educator, author, instructional coach, and curriculum designer. She currently serves as the assistant principal at Passages Elementary School. Ashley has over a decade of culturally competent and social justice driven instructional experience with 2nd - 8th grade Chicago Public School, charter, and private school students as a general education teacher, bilingual English Language arts teacher, social justice learning designer with The Academy Group, and private tutor. She has shared her expertise through years of mentoring and coaching of resident teachers at The University of Chicago and Northern Illinois University.

 

Ashley has years of community organizing and ed. policy advocacy experience with Illinois for Educational Equity, Advance Illinois and Teach Plus. She was a lead author of the policy brief “From Zero to SB100: Teachers’ Views on Implementation of School Discipline Reform”, published March 2018 and now sits on the Teach Plus board. Ashley is a published author of three Great First Eight curricular texts and a number of opinion editorials. She has presented for Skidmore College, Digital Pedagogy Lab, the 2019 Education Writers Association’s Annual Conference, the 2018 Transforming School Discipline Collaborative Conference and been a guest on The Black Dispatch podcast, WTTW Chicago Tonight, WBBM News Radio, and The AC Green Show.

 

She is a 2021 Golden Apple Award winner, a multi-year winner of the Amherst College Class of ’54 Commitment to Teaching Fellowship, and a multi-year winner of the Francis and Elliot Lehman Excellence in Teaching Award.
